Hi everyone! I am a nineteen year old girl from Malta and I am here to tell you my story.
If I could choose one word that would describe my character it would definitely be Sports-Maniac! I have gone through various sports activities.... gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, rugby, athletics, football.... but one sport has been life changing to me, and this it TENNIS! I am a crazy about it! Although in previous years I took it much seriously than nowadays since I used to compete in the national team and train much more than later on in my years. The reason being that school was a priority to our family. Training tennis and studying at the same time was becoming too much... and obviously my parents weren't happy with that. Soooo I had to step back on the training and focus on my exams - Killer right?! But it wasn't the end of tennis for me! I still used to compete in tournaments on a smaller level, and to be quite honest, it was sooo much less stressful.
But on June of 2014, bad luck struck. While I was out with my friends on a Saturday night, I fell a flight of stairs wearing a 5 inch heel....and well....that's when the trouble started. I could not walk on my foot and I was panicking because this was going to effect my tennis.... and I was right. After going to hospital and having an X-Ray of my huge, swollen, throbbing foot, the doctors told me that it wasn't broken, but I had strained my ligaments quite badly. I could not walk on it and had to use crutches for 5 weeks.... I was soooo depressed...but my boyfriend made it bearable. He knocked some sense into my head and told me that this was only temporary and that I would get back on court in no time! And after some time, I did.
I still remember the first tournament match I played after my injury, and not to boast or anything, but I was great! The wanting and need for me to play throughout those 2 months exploded on court. And I kept being great until a final match came up, and my foot just gave up on me.... and it kept giving up on me in all of the games. I couldn't believe it! I had done my time properly and had taken care of it just like the doctors had told me to do....and it didn't work. I was crying so much, because I wasn't playing to my full potential. It was on my last match that I noticed that something just was not right... I was on court and just about to hit my backhand, when I literally felt my ankle touching the floor and the pain hit.
This was a wake up call. I made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon and it was then when he told me that I had probably cut two ligaments. I need to have an operation done. I was shocked at first, but now that I am waiting to do my MRI, I cannot wait to get over with it and get back on court. My family and my boyfriend all play tennis, and it hurts when I see them packing to go for a match.
Anyways! That is my injury story, and although it is not really a big of a deal, especially when compared to other people's problems, I really NEED to get back out there.
Obviously, not being able to do any kind of sport, the weight has been piling in, especially since I am a BIG food lover! Buttttt I just realised that if I am going to be spending 6 weeks in a cast in a few months, I need to get my act together, so that when I am ready to play again, I won't be so out of line.
I will be posting what exercises I will be performing, obviously ones that do not put a strain on my ankle and the diet I will be doing along with the recipes, as from tomorrow; 08th March 2015.
I hope that any viewers that will be following my blog will enjoy what I have to say, and that I could give you some healthy motivation. :)
